Hero Quilt Complete

Finally the binding is complete. I named this quilt "My Hero Memory Quilt", the name and quilt is for my son who is Airmen in the Air Force.  All soldiers are Hero, no matter if they are old or new, they are doing their American Duty Serving their Country.  This quilt is to remind him of his 8 week basic training, and remind him of his core values.

The panto pattern is "Patriot" by ClothWerx from Williow Leaf Studios.  Using So Fine #431 (Navy) in the top and #432 (Your Highness) in the bottom.  I used Quilter Dream Poly (Select), which is midloft batting. I love using the Quilters Dream Batting it is easy to quilt through and light weight.

Now, to finish the pillows and get this mailed off to my son.

Hero Quilt Complete

Finally the binding is complete. Busy Couple Days!

The last couple day, have been pretty busy.  Lets see where should we start.  Friday was my extra day off, but I found out that my husband was off also due to all the overtime he had been working that week, which was great.  So Friday, my oldest son, my husband and myself  went to lunch together.  Then my husband and I went to the county courthouses to get the last bit of paperwork we needed done for the getting Quilting Affections set up as a business. Just waiting on the application to be approved and we are done, Yeah!!!  Then we  went and did some errands at Target. After that we headed out to Michelle's Quilt Shop, to pick out fabric for a new pattern we are designing, more on that coming soon. When we finished at Michelle's we came home and I did some free motion practice on the longarm. The rest of the evening I sat watching t.v with my feet up working on finishing binding the Jelly Roll Quilt. I almost finished it that night just had a half a side to do, but my eyes were tired, so I went to bed.

On Saturday morning, we were planning to head to IKEA, but the wind was really strong. So we decided to stay home and get a few thing done around the house, and so glad we did.  I finished the Jelly Roll Race Quilt, another quilt done and off my list to finish.  Next, I started washing and ironing fabric that we got at Michelle's on Friday.  Then I started to clean my studio, but during the cleaning I ended up rearranging things in the room. In the mist of rearranging we moved the Embroidery Machine into that room so my husband and I can work together in the same room.  While working on that I finished washing some other material that need to made into quilts. So after I was done with all the rearranging I had lots of ironing to do, but I got it done.  I still have a few thing to put away from the rearranging but I like the new set up; much easier to get to things.  I ended the night by putting the binding on the Memory Quilt for my son, and I was starting to do the hand stitching by the time I went to bed. 


Today, I am hoping to get some practicing on the longarm done. I found an old quilt (UFO) yesterday that needed to be quilted and I will practice with it.  I think i will start with some designs on practice material to see If I like it or not before I load the quilt.  I may also work on some the new pattern designs.  Well will have to see what the day brings us. Memory Quilt Loaded!

Yesterday, I spent most of the day, finishing the Memory quilt.  I started with adding 3 borders on the quilt top it self. 

The inner border (tan) was 1 1/2", and middle (red camo) was a 3" and outer layer was a 5" border.  On the outer layer I add 5" squared to each of  the corners. 

After the borders were complete, I ran out to Michelle's to pick up some batting I have been wanting to try, Quilter Dream batting.  When I got home I opened the package to start to the let the batting relax, and boy its one soft batting. I thinking I may like this batting.  I prepared the backing for the longarm also.

By the end of the day, I was tired and done thinking about quilting, so we watched a couple movies.

Today, I did some house cleaning, in the morning. So this afternoon, I started loading the backing on the machine.  Then I loaded the top, which I had do redo after I rolled it up and realized that it was not straight.  So, I unrolled it and start over this time it was much better roll up.  I'm starting to get the hang of loading the quilts to the machine.

Then, I decided to go ahead and do a couple of rows of the pantograph I got for this project. which has flags and stars through it. 

At first, I had a couple of tension issues, due to using the different type of batting than I have in the past.  I got that fixed right away.  The pattern is coming out really nicely, I hope to get some more done this week, after work.

Now time to sit back watch the Superbowl and maybe work on the binding of the Jelly roll quilt.  Hope you all had a good week!

Hero Memory Quilt!

Today was a good day to work in the studio, since it was cold with snow on the ground.  I was working on piecing my son's quilt together. 

Last night I started playing with the blocks and things seemed to be lining up a little off, so I took the seam ripper and broke up the blocks and decided to re-square all the blocks. That seem to do the trick.  By the end of the evening I had the first set of 9 blocks together and it was nice and square.

So this morning I started getting the rest of blocks set up into sections.  The rest of the sections were just a little more tricky, but fun to work with due to the size of the blocks and working them around the t-shirt blocks.

Some  of the sections needed to have blocks trimmed down or have sashing pieces added them.

After each long sections were completed I would check them to make sure they were keeping squared up.

I was very pleased with the overall of the look and size of the main part of top when It was finished.  Once I had the top done, I did a final measurement to calculate the borders and backing to get them ordered.

Borders and backing should here by the end of next week, I hope so I can get this finish.  Now,  Tomorrow, I think I will get the border on the Jelly Roll Race and get the backing ready for quilting.
