Quilts for a Cause!

Besides the Galentine Project, this month's Island Batik Ambassadors primary challenge was in support of a wonderful cause.  We were challenged to create at least one Kennel quilt that we could donate to an animal shelter.

A Little Background !

In 2016, Island Batiks joined forces along with The Quilt Pattern Magazine, Aurifil Thread, QuiltBox, Benartex, and Hancock's of Paducah to sponsor the Pieces for Shelter Pets (PFSP). The initiative was created by the Petfinder Foundation and supports the Petfinder Foundation, a “public charity that works to end the euthanasia of adoptable pets by assisting animal shelters and rescue groups across North America”. This is accomplished through financial contributions made possible by the sale of fabric, thread, and other quilting related products.

The TQPM Small Kennel Quilt Team, is a volunteer organization sponsored by the The Quilt Pattern Magazine (TQPM).  This team works with the Petfinder Foundation to find a shelter in need for assistance. The Quilt team makes small kennel quilts for animals in need.  The need comes very high especially after disaster strikes.  If you would like more information, you can learn more HERE.

My Project

I took up the challenge and dug into my left over scraps from the last Blog hop that used the Island Batik "Happy Hound" Collection. I decided to use the "Rail" pattern by Nan Baker.  I love this pattern, it is so easy to make and can be made for a cat or dog. You can find more patterns HERE.

In one day, I prepared 7 kennel quilts, along with batting and backings. These projects are great for using up your scraps of fabric and batting for a great cause.

With Anna and Lucy seal of approval, I will be mailing these 7 kennel quilts off to Petfinder Louisiana SPCA, a New Orleans shelter that helps find homes for pets and has requested assistance due to recent tornado's.

Now, to get back to designing, for March's challenge "Mini Madness"

Happy Sewing,

Tina

Happy Galentine's Day!

Happy Galentine’s Day!

No this is not a typo, and you are reading this correctly. So, now you are all wondering what the heck is “Galentine's Day”. Well, I hadn't even heard of before myself before this week.  After a little research, this is what I found out.

Galentine's Day, a holiday held on February 13th, a holiday for women to celebrate their female friendships. This holiday was created on the TV series “Park and Recreation” by the character Leslie Knope.  We celebrating the love that we have for our girlfriends. As Leslie explains in the episode, “Oh, it’s only the best day of the year”.

The Island Batik Ambassadors were asked to take on the challenge to make a mug rug or post card. So I went to my box of gorgeous batiks, and pulled out a bundle of Valentines fabrics especially for this projects.

Then I started designing my quick little mug projects that celebrates my best friends and my love for them.  This project was so fun and easy to make. This project measures 10 ½” x 6 ½”.  It was so easy I finished 2 mug rugs in one day.

Happy Galentine's Day!, to all of you ladies in my life.

Tina

Island Batik Ambassadors 2017

I'm very excited to tell you that I will be returning for my 2nd year as an Island Batik Ambassador.  This year over 35 Ambassadors were selected, that is very exciting. For the last week, we have been having fun introducing ourselves and waiting in pure excitement for our first boxes.

On Thursday afternoon, my first shipment of Island Batik fabrics arrived by FedEx. I was so excited and so were the girls.
Mom, the box is now safe to open!
Of course, the girls could not help me open the box, but they had to check it out to see if it was safe.

Lucy says,"Look at those beautiful Batiks, Mom!".  I Love these beautiful colors! We even got some fabulous thread from Auriful and Superior Thread, Thank you so much!

Anna love posing with beautiful fabrics
I think I love this box,  It's like opening a Christmas present.  I think Anna agrees that the fabrics and thread are gorgeous.

Here is a upclose look at all the fabrics and thread that where in my box. Looks, like they will be keeping us all busy this year. So I better get started!
