Customer Quilt Top

Old Glory Life has been crazy the last couple weeks.  I been working hard on completing and finishing up several quilts for the patterns we have in final stages of development.  We hope to be going to the printers here in the next couple weeks.

I finally received another quilt top to finish for a customer yesterday.   I finished it up late last night.  The quilt top is named "Old Glory". This Red, White, Blue star quilt top measuring 71 1/2" x 91 1/2" was made by a first time quilter.  She did a fabulous job for her first time.

Longarm Quilting ServiceThe customer requested a star design pantograph.  Old GlorySo we found "Star Dance" on the Digi-Tech Designs website.  The batting that I used was Quilters Dream Black Poly with Superior So Fine Thread.

The quilt came out beautiful. Now, just waiting for the customer to pick up the quilt.

Time to get back to work on these pattern and quilt designs.

Lastest Project

Life has been crazy since I returned from my vacation in Minnesota.  I'm ready for another already, but there is now time right now.  We are in the final stages of getting our Pattern's ready to print.  I'm so nervous and excited at the same time.  Can't wait to show them off, here in the near future.

I did find time this past week to work on a small project that My Friend Jean sent home with me from Minnesota.  When we were at the Hingeley Road Quilt Shop in Floodwood, Minnesota she found some batiks with wine grapes and in the color of here dining room area.  JB TablerunnerSo she asked if I would make a table runner for her, didn't have to be fancy.  So when I returned home, with all the fabric, I started playing around in EQ7 and came up with this idea.
JB TablerunnerOriginally the idea just to make 5 snowball blocks and put borders on them. then I came up with idea of adding the family names to all the snowball blocks with Monogram lettering, with my embroidery machine.

It took me just about a half to make the whole tablerunner including machine embroidering the names on the blocks.

TJB Tablerunnerhe quilting took me a day to complete, due to I put some custom quilting around the embroidered names to make the names pop out. Lots of loop to loop in the detail.  JB TablerunnerThen I added grape leaves in the middle between each block and the borders to finish it off.

Now, I need to get the binding on today and finished this weekend.  So I can give it to her in person next week.  Cant wait to see her.

Have a great Quilting Day,

Kansas City Star BOM #7!

Kansas City City Star BOM #7Yesterday, I took a little time off of Pattern designing and made the newest Block of the Month for the Kansas City Star Quilt.

This month is Block 7 - "Corn and Beans" which was first published in 1930.  This block is a variation of the "Shoo-Fly" block.  This was a fun and charming block to complete.

Kansas City City Star BOM #7You start preparing for the patches, by making 4 flying geese  and 12 -2 1/2" half triangles.

Kansas City City Star BOM #7Then you can start the center blocks by making half Square blocks.  You start with combining 2 1/2" square block with triangle on each side to make a large triangle then sewing the brown triangle to make a large half Square block that measures 4 1/2".

Kansas City City Star BOM #7Then for the other center unit you need to combine 2 1/2" square with an 2 1/2" half square triangle to make a row. Then sew a 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" rectangle on the bottom of the squares that were just combined.
Next you need to sew 2- 2 1/2" square on both sides of the flying geese unit.  Now that all the blocks are now complete you sew them all together to get the final block(above).

Block 7 is now complete, just 5 more to go.

Little Time off!

Last couple of weeks, have been a little down time for me.  Tuesday May 13th, I took off to spend a week with my one of my dearest friends Jean Marie, in Moose Lake, Minnesota.  She and her husband have a great little place back in the woods.  So, I got spend time with her and beautiful 8 year old twins for a week.  It was great to get away from the business for awhile and just have some girl time.  We had fun shopping, talking and just overall spending time together. I did get to go a couple quilt shops while I was there, and came home with lots of fabric to make my youngest a quilt and my friend Jean a nice table runner. What a blast! This is the second year, we have done our girls week and we love it.  I had to return to the real world last Wednesday evening.

friendsI took Thursday off, due to it was my birthday so I spent it with my hubby and oldest son.  My youngest called me that evening and we had a great talk.  My other dear friend, took us out to dinner to celebrate all of our birthdays.  My husbands is the day before mine and my oldest son turns 23 this week.  It was a great day!

Friday, I was back working on my patterns.  I spent a lot of my time working on the applique pattern which it is in it final stages.  Just waiting on the mail so I can get final pattern pieces into the computer.  But, while I was in Minnesota, I did get a little work done, when we had some down time.  I got my first pieced pattern typed up and just about ready to go.  So, yesterday I spent the day with my husband working on the pattern and remaking it to make sure everything is correct.  Then, I will send it off for some proofreading and clean up.

While I was gone my husband did a great job running the online business, even though we only had one customer for the week I was gone.

Well I guess my fun time is done for now, so I have to get back to work.  Reminder:  Spring Blow Out Sale has started and ends May 30th.  Check out our sales Items, here!

Kansas City Star BOM #6!

Kansas City City Star BOM #6Looks, like I forgot to post yesterday, sorry!  I got involved with a new quilt pattern, I'm developing.  Anyway, here is the post I wanted to write about yesterday.

I just got caught up on the blocks on all the Kansas City Star Block of the Month.  I finished Block 6 - "Designs for the Young at Heart" Printed in July, 1977.  This block uses 3 different Fabrics and is made of rectangles, squares, flying geese, and chevron pieces.

Kansas City City Star BOM #6I started with making all the pieces to make the block. Kansas City City Star BOM #6First was the 4 flying geese units.  Then it was on to the chevron pieces, making 4 also.

Kansas City City Star BOM #6Once I had them assembled, I then assembled the two block together, with the flying geese units on top of the chevron units and press toward the flying geese.

Kansas City City Star BOM #6Now, that I have the 4 units done, I can now start to assemble the whole block.  I start with laying out the blocks, this helps with the assembly process.  Once they are all layout I sewed them all the rows together on by one, making 3 rows.  Then after the 3 rows are made, I then assembled them together.  After Pressing the Block is now complete.

Kansas City City Star BOM #6Now, I am half way done with the blocks.  I think this is going to be a great quilt when finished.

Well it is time to get back to work, hope you all have a great day sewing and quilting.
