Garden Enchantment Block 6, the final block.

Today is a release day for the final block 6 and finishing instructions for the Garden Enchantment BOM.  This Block of the Month has gone really fast when you are as busy as I am right now.  Purchase Block 6/Finishing Instructions HERE!

Block 6 consist of making units that are made from Half Square Triangles, Diamond in a Square and Picket units.

Since we have been making Half Square Triangles and Diamond in a Square unit throughout this quilt, we will be really concentrating on how to make the Picket units in this block post.

Picket units are easy to make.  Let's start with 2 small white squares, Dark Green and Turquoise Rectangles. 

Mark a sewing line corner to corner on the diagonal on the wrong sides of the small squares.   Place the small square on each of the rectangles with right sides together.  Assuring the diagonal for the dark green rectangle starts in the upper left and for the turquoise the diagonal start in the upper right-hand corner. 

Stitch on the drawn lines, trim 1/4" away from the sewn line.

Pressing the Dark Green Picket toward the small triangle, and the Turquoise Picket you will press toward the turquoise.

To trim up the units, position your Wing Clipper® over the unit, aligning one of the long diagonal guidelines on the ruler with a single diagonal seam.  Assuring the appropriate size trim down lines on the tool is inside the oversized unit.  Trim up the first two sides.

Rotate your Picket unit 180° and reposition the Wing Clipper® to align the trimmed raw edge with the unit size and "X" at the top with the sewn seam.  Trim again, up the side and across the top.

For the other Picket unit, position the Wing Clipper®, aligning the "X" at the top with the sewn seam.  Assuring the appropriate size trim down lines on the tool is inside the oversized unit.  Trim the first two sides,  then rotate, align, and trim the second two sides.

See that's how easy the Pickets units are to make. You can now assemble your units together.

To assemble, you will start by sewing the corners and the Pickets together into units.  Once you have units, you need to Layout your block and Stitch the units together.

Your Block is now complete.  You are now ready to assemble your Garden Enchantment Quilt Top together.  Have fun with your assembly as the quilt comes along.

Garden Enchantment Block 5

Today is the release day for the Garden Enchantment BOM Block 5.  You can now download Block 5 here. Only 1 more month left in this Block of the Month Program, time just goes by fast.  Can't wait to see everyone's' finished quilts.

Block 5 consists of making 4 blocks that use the following units: Half Square Triangles, Flying Geese, and Diamond in a Square.  

Since we have made all these units in the past months, today's tutorial will be a quick overview.

Half Square Triangles

For this block, we will be making two different colorways, white/green, and white/purple. 

Right Handed

Left Handed

Trim your units to the size indicated in the pattern using your Tucker Trimmer® I tool.  Lining up the diagonal lines on the seam lines and trimming the first two sides.

Right Handed

Left Handed

Rotate the unit 180° and Line up the Tucker Trimmer® I tool once again and trim the remaining sides.

Repeat for the White/Purple Half Square Units.

Flying Geese

For the Flying Geese units, you will need your Wing Clipper® I tool.  We will be making 4 different colorways for this block, White/Dark Purple, White/Purple, Dark Purple/Turquoise, and Purple/Turquoise.

Remember to when trimming your units to align the diagonal lines of the Wing Clipper® I with the seams of the Flying Geese units. Trim the first two sides.

Follow by rotating your flying geese units 180° and reposition the Wing Clipper® I  to align the previously trimmed raw edges with the finished size and the "X" at the top with the intersection of the seams.  Trimming the two remaining sides.

Repeat for all your units.

Diamond in a Square

Next, and the last unit we will be making in this block is the Diamond in a Square unit.  We will be making one colorway, White/Turquoise and trimming them up with the Square Squared® tool.

Trim the unit using your Square Squared® tool, by positioning the Trim Down Section of the tool over the unit.  Focusing on aligning the "X" of the finished size unit over the sewn seams.  Trim the first two sides.

Rotate the unit 180° and Reposition the tool lining up the "X's" and then lining up the cleanup lines on the tool with the previously trimmed cut sizes.

Now that all the units are complete, it is time to assemble the blocks together.  Please remember to pay close attention orientation of your corners A and B Unit placement.  This will help when assembling your block.

Garden Enchantment BOM Block 4

It's that time of the month in the Garden Enchantment BOM.  Block 4 is now available to download and make.  Only 2 more months left in this Block of the Month Program, time just goes by fast.

Block 4 is very similar to Block 1 in a lot of ways, except for the coloring.  For this block, you will need your Tucker Trimmer® 1, V-Block® and Square Squared® tools. We will be making 4 blocks that have the following units: Half Square Triangles, SideKick & High/Low and Diamond in a Square unit.

Half Square Triangles

Let's start with a quick overview of the Half Square Triangles.

Start by marking the back of your white squares with stitching lines using your Quilter's Magic Wand to get the 1/4" on each side of the center diagonal.

Layer with right sides together with the white and green squares and stitch on the marked lines.

Trim down the middle of the stitched lines.  

Yielding two triangles. Press toward the Green triangles.

Position the Tucker Trimmer® tool over the half square triangle unit, laying the common diagonal on the seam lines.  Trim the first two sides.

Rotate your unit 180° and reposition the Tucker Trimmer® once again on the unit this time making sure to line up the 2" trim line on the cleanup edges and the common diagonal on the seam lines and trim again.

Make 48 Half Square Triangles.

Diamond in a Square

We have been making the Diamond in a Square the last couple months now.  Please remember the following when you are making your 4 units.

Remember that you need to use your center square section of your tool to sub-cut your strips and get the accurate size for your center square. 

Remember when stitching your triangles to your squares to stitch with the square on top of the triangles, so you get the best visibility.

Position your Square Squared tool with the 3" "X's" on the seam intersections and dashed lines on the center seams, and make sure you have the 3 1/2" trim lines are inside the edges of the unit and make you first trim.

Rotate the unit around 180° and repositioning again lining up the "X's" and the seams, along with the 3 1/2" trim down line and trim again.

Make 4 Diamond in a Square unit.

SideKick and High/Low Units.

Finally, we are going to make 4 SideKick and High/Low Units.  Remember, we will be removing the left Side of the based Section Square and replacing it with a Side Triangle that is cut with your Studio 180 Design V-Block® Tool.

To get started, we will place the based section squares on the mat FACE UP for cutting. Then you are going to put the Dotted line of you V Block® on the edge of the base section square and the bottom of the finished unit size guideline along the raw edge of the square.  Cut along the slanted edge of the tool.

Next, place your side triangle strip on the cutting mat FACE UP for cutting. This will ensure we are getting the correct side triangle for the replacement.  

Position the Bold Solid line of you V Block® Trimmer on the edge of the trimmed end of the teal strip and make sure to line up the bottom of the finished size guideline along the raw edge of the strip.  Cut along the slanted edge of the tool.

Rotate the V Block tool 180° and position the extended diagonal line against the previously trimmed slanted cut.

Layout the Side Triangles and base section face up as they will be positioned in the final unit. Position a side triangle and base section with right sides facing together.  Align the edges and Stitch with a 1/4" seam allowance.

Repeat to make 4 Side Triangle Units.  Do Not Trim at this point!  Next, We need to add the Low unit.

Mark a diagonal line down the wrong side of your Dark Green Square, which will be your stitching line.

Position the Dark Green Square in the bottom right-hand corner of your SideKick with right sides together and the line going across the corner. 

Stitch on the line, Trim the seams 1/4" from the stitching lines, and press away from the based unit.

Position the V-Block® trimmer tool on the unit.  Making sure to line up the side triangle seam with the guideline on the tool and to Position the intersection of the two seamlines where the guidelines on the tool intersect.  Note the seam on the folded corner will not line up with the guideline of the tool. Align the Finished size measurement with the seam lines.  Trim the first two sides.

Rotate your SideKick & High/Low unit 180° and line up the V Block® tool again. Aligning the cut size stated in your instructions with the previously trimmed edges and the "X" lines with the sewn seam line intersections.  Trim the last two remaining sides. 

You will make 16 SideKick & High/Low units.

Corner Units

Stitch together the Half Square Triangles and squares to make the corner units, pressing according to the directions in your pattern.

Layout your units and stitch together, pressing according to the directions in your pattern.
