New Pattern "Ramblin' Star" Block of the Month

Update: Due to the Island Batik "Plum Delicious" Collection that is used in this quilt will not be able until April 2018. This pattern shipment has been pushed back to March 2018. The videos and tutorial will start in April also. Please watch for further posts on this Block of the Month.

“Ramblin’ Star” is a bold and elegant quilt that will liven any room highlighting the Plum Delicious collection by Island Batik.

This 8-Month Program features a combination of various sized blocks and fillers, comes with two bonus blocks, and one 18” x 18” popular Medallion center block to complete this 60” x 60” beautiful quilt.

This traditionally piecing pattern is excellent for the Intermediate to Advance Beginners comes complete with fully colored illustrated instructions and templates to complete each month’s block.

New Pattern "Entangled Paths" Coming Soon!

The next couple days, I'm going to introduce you to my newest Fall/Winter 2017 patterns that will be launched at Quilt Market this week. I'm so excited about these designs.

Today I would like to introduce you to "Entangled Paths."

This eye-catching lap size quilt measures 64" x 76" would be great for the particular person in your life. This exciting pattern uses a combination of the drunkard's path and rail fence blocks.

The pattern was designed with the 6" Drunkards Path Bloc_LocⓇ Ruler, but the pattern does include templates for completing the blocks. The pattern also includes thoroughly and carefully illustrated pattern instructions to help make this generous lap size quilt easy to achieve.

Blogger's Quilt Festival 2017: Entry #2 Octagon Gems

This week September 18-25, 2017, is the Bloggers Quilt Festival at Amy's Creative Side. My first entry, A-Mazed! has been already been posted this morning, so now I have finally decided on my second entry for the Festival, so here it is.

"Octagon Gems", 56" x 56"

This 56"x 56" quilt is featured in the Spring/Summer 2017, Island Batik Catalog. The image above uses the Island Batik "Bonsai" Collection.

This intermediate pieced pattern uses a combination of half rectangle triangles, flying geese, and half square triangles to make up the two blocks in the quilt.

I used the following Bloc_LocⓇ Rulers to make this quilt. Half Square Triangle Rulers 2 1/2", Flying Geese Ruler 2 1/2" x 4 1/2", and the Half Rectangle Triangle ruler 4 1/2" x 8 1/2".

Fun Fact: When I designed this quilt, I had never made a Half Rectangle Triangle in my life. Yes, I did make one as a test before submitting the quilt design to Island Batiks.

Spring Market 2017

Last Week, I attended Spring Quilt Market in St. Louis. This was my second Spring Market, but my third overall Quilt Market. I had several reasons for going to this market. First of all, I had 2 quilts hanging on the showroom floor, so I want to see them. Secondly, I want to learn and lastly, I want to try to make a few more contacts.

Learning began at quilt market started on Thursday with Schoolhouse. This was my first Schoolhouse I have attended. You need to arrive early on school house day to plan your day. Once you have a planned your day, you are ready. The first session of schoolhouse began with Moda, introducing their new William Morris Collection. They had a great historical background on William Morris from the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, England. After the presentation and opening of the schoolhouse, we received a great handbag with charms packs and a pattern to make a cute little a table runner.

Once we were done with the first session we had ten minutes to the get to the next session. My second session was with Studio 180 designs, learning what was up and coming with Deb Tucker and her rulers. Wow! they had some fabulous quilts. Makes me want to start playing more with their rulers also.

These were just a few of the quilts in the session.

I not going to talk to about all my session so I will highlight few of my favorites.

The next session I will highlight is Bloc_Loc Ruler. Janna and Paul Thomas announced their new book and ruler Kaleidoscope. Wow! I again their quilts was fantastic. Looking forward to playing with the new ruler.

I attended a few of the Island Batik Sessions. Tammy Silvers introduced her first ever fabric collection "Batiks Go Retro!" Her first session was talking about what you can to with making bags with her collection. And her second session was on her patterns.

I also added a session on some of the Creative Grid Rulers, and Social Media. The schoolhouse is a lot of fun and I learned a lot and one a few prizes through the day.

At the end of the day, I had a great seminar Social Media Marketing 2.0 by Morna McEver Golletz. It was great to learn how to make social media work for my business.

My second day was the opening of the market floor. The doors opened at 9:30, it was nice to get there early. I like to start the first row and work to the other end. I would stop in several booths, to introduce myself to people I have communicated with via email. It is always nice to put a name and face together.

I finally made it down to the Island Batik Booth. I saw my quilts as started down the aisle. I was too excited. My Patterns made their debut, now let me introduce you. Seeing my quilts was just fun and great, plus I got to meet other designers and Island Batik folks.

That evening I attend another social media with EESchneck. I was very informative.

Saturday morning, before flying back I attended a fabulous Seminar with Kelly Ann Richardson a local shop owner from my area. She was talking about How Quilt Shop Owners and Designers can work together. I wish there were more classes like this. I learned a lot of information from this class and will be starting to work on a lot of this shortly.

Over the Spring Quilt Market for 2017 was great from me, I think I accomplished everything I wanted to do and came with lots of goodies.

Adventurous Applique

I just finished my Island Batik project for April just in time. This month's theme was "Adventurous Applique". I started this project earlier this month and I finished quilting and binding this project this week.

In February, I picked up a new ruler set, with project book, for the Bloomin' Cogwheel Rulers. So I wanted to try something different this month to make a couple plates with the new rulers. I had no real plan, just started looking at some of the plate designs in the book. I knew I wanted to make something that was small, maybe something for a table. After, deciding on a idea from the book, I needed to pick the fabric, which is very hard at times for me.

Once my fabric was picked out I made a couple strip sets out of my Island Batik Stash builder rolls.

Using the grooves in the cogwheel rulers, I began cutting all my blades.

Then I began to make the points on the alternating blades, and rounded the ends of the other blades.

Once the points were made I started sewing all the blades together to make partial plates. Which is a little different. Each plate was made different, then placed on a piece of background fabric for the applique part.

Using Superior Threads, Fantastico multi-color thread, I machine appliqued the plates and extra blades to the fabric.

The finished project looks like this, just little sample of what I can make from the Bloomin' Cogwheel Rulers. I'm looking forward to getting away from applique, and getting back to piecing next month for May's Challenge.

Garland Reveal

This week I'm revealing new patterns developed using the Island Batik Fall and Winter Fabric Collection.

Today's featured pattern that I'm revealing is "Garland". This 62" x 62" pattern was developed for the Island Batik Winter Collection using the Jolly Holly Collection. See the samples at the International Quilt Market Island Batik Booth.

The quilt will add holiday cheer in any room! This festive pattern uses a combination of half square triangles and flying geese that will bring home the holidays.

The quilt blocks are designed around the awesome Bloc_Loc Rulers®.

Rulers Used in this Project:
Half Square Triangle Ruler - 4 1/2” or larger

Flying Geese Ruler - 3 1/2” x 6 1/2”

Haven't heard of and never used Bloc_Loc Rulers, check out some great videos at their webpage. Try one of these rulers and you will be hooked. They are a great tool that will help you make your blocks accurate with ease.

Island Batik Ambassadors: Modern Challenge

This month, was a particular busy one for me, I completed 3 new quilts designs for the Island Batiks. So now I have to just finish writing the patterns over the next couple weeks. The patterns and quilts will be available for the Fall Market.

Now to get my Island Batik Ambassador Challenge done for the month. This month’s challenge is to make a Modern Batiks quilt.

So I started designing in EQ7, but I also wanted to play with the Half-Rectangle Triangle and the Kite Rulers I got from Bloc_Loc Rulers. I love using the Bloc_Loc Rulers, they make cutting blocks so much easier.

Once I had my design made, I need to figure the fabric that would work for a modern layout. I had a package of Fire Island stack (10” squares) and a yard of basic neutral fabric to work with.
