Today was a very productive and great day, but no quilting got done. Even though there was no quilting, a lot of preparation to get the business up and running was accomplished.
This morning was full of cleaning, most of it was my spring cleaning. I was took down my curtains and washed them. Also I used my swifter duster on my walls and high items to get the cobwebs and dust off everything. What a difference, need to do this more over the next couple weeks. After cleaning all morning, we tried to go to a movie with some friends to see Hansel and Gretal, but the movie was sold out. Actually most of the movies were sold out until later this evening, which I think was caused by the cold wet weather. So we decided to go ahead and get tickets for tomorrow afternoon. Then we went over Staples and looked for a filing cabinet to start getting our financial papers for the business and personal together. Also we picked up Quick Book's Pro, so we can start getting that setup. Tomorrow, I hope to start putting things away in the file cabinets, and get some quilting done, since I have not done much this week. I have been working on the binding of my son's quilt this week, and just about got it finished. Thinking this is one of my better binding jobs I have done. At least, I have Monday off due to the holiday, so I'm hoping to get a lot of sewing done that day. Well time to see if I can get more done on this binding before bed!Tina

On Tuesday afternoon, toward the end of the lesson with Myrna Ficken, she showed me the neatest tool for the APQS Longarm that makes the perfect circle. Myrna has the perfect circle maker.
The circle maker sets on the back of the machine, its like your machine becomes a big compass, but you are not using a pencil to draw the lines, instead you are using your needle and thread. With this tool it allows you make all kinds of circles and arches. She showed me how to do make baptist fans. She did the first set, and had me try the others. It was much easier to make the circles than using a ruler, and much fastest and more accurate on the spacing. Once you get use to the starting and stopping of each of the lines you get into a rhythm and it is fun and fast to make them.
Defiantly, fell in love with the perfect circle, have to investigate it more and maybe getting one for myself.Tina

When I bought my APQS Millennium, it came with a free one day beginning training class. So Today I had my class with my local APQS Representative and Educator, Myna Flicken.
The class was broken up into two parts. The first half was on the business side of longarm quilting. She discuss what it takes to start and run the business, also where to get supplies, such as batting, thread, and other notions. There was a lot of great information in the first half of the day.

After lunch, we moved down to the her studio, and started right away on learning the basics of the machine, such as maintenance, and tension. She showed us how to load a quilt on the table. We went over the setup and using pantograph. Then we moved the laser light to the front of the machine and learned how to use it with templates. Next we move on to using rulers, she also demonstrated how to use the Harley Fence, a nice accessory for the APQS machine that makes great circles and arches.
I came home with the fabric samples of everything we worked with today. It was a great day of learning, and look forward to practicing these new skills on Millie. Tina
