Kansas City Star BOM #7!

Kansas City City Star BOM #7Yesterday, I took a little time off of Pattern designing and made the newest Block of the Month for the Kansas City Star Quilt.

This month is Block 7 - "Corn and Beans" which was first published in 1930.  This block is a variation of the "Shoo-Fly" block.  This was a fun and charming block to complete.

Kansas City City Star BOM #7You start preparing for the patches, by making 4 flying geese  and 12 -2 1/2" half triangles.

Kansas City City Star BOM #7Then you can start the center blocks by making half Square blocks.  You start with combining 2 1/2" square block with triangle on each side to make a large triangle then sewing the brown triangle to make a large half Square block that measures 4 1/2".

Kansas City City Star BOM #7Then for the other center unit you need to combine 2 1/2" square with an 2 1/2" half square triangle to make a row. Then sew a 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" rectangle on the bottom of the squares that were just combined.
Next you need to sew 2- 2 1/2" square on both sides of the flying geese unit.  Now that all the blocks are now complete you sew them all together to get the final block(above).

Block 7 is now complete, just 5 more to go.

Live, Inspire and Create,
