Island Batik Ambassador Great Outdoors Blog Hop and Giveaway!

Hello and welcome to my day for the Island Batik Ambassador Great Outdoors Blog Hop!

Jennifer Strause, the Dizzy Quilter and I will be showing off the gorgeous colors and furry designs in the Island Batik "Fur-ocious Friends," fabric collections which can be found in your favorite quilt store near you.

The theme of this Ambassador Blog hop is "The Great Outdoors."  When I looked at the theme and the colors of the "Fur-ocious Friends" collection, the first thing that popped in my mind was a bright and cheery garden.  As a kid, I remember playing with Pinwheels that were placed in gardens to keep the birds and animals away, that is my inspiration for this quilt. Of course, as a newly Studio 180 Design Certified Instructor, I needed to design a fun pattern using my some of my favorite tools.

From these inspirations, I designed "Pinwheel Garden."

Pinwheel Garden, brings those bright cheery days watching the slight spring breeze just spin the pinwheels around and around.  The final quilt measures 60" x 60".

I used several different fabrics to highlight the "Fur-ocious Friends" Collection and these beautiful Auriful threads to make this project.

The combination of Split Rects® and Shaded Four Patch units using the Tucker Trimmer® I tools were used in the making of the two different blocks.

For the batting of for this quilt, I want to try out the Tuscany Collection Cotton Wool Bend that was provided to use by Hobbs company in our Island Batik Ambassador Box.  I think the batting provided an antique look to the quilt.

This was a fun and easy quilt design to make, the pattern will be coming soon. So be sure to follow my newsletter and blog here, to find out the release date.

Studio 180 Design Corner Pop Tool!

This week’s Quilt Talk Tuesday continued getting you ready for the Rainbow Serenade QAL which starts September 11th. The focus was to give you a better understanding of the Studio 180 Design Corner Pop® Tool and to provide a sneak peek to one of the units, you will be making in the QAL.

The Studio 180 Design Corner Pop® tool is an excellent tool for adding fabric corners to basic shapes and blocks successfully every time.  The tool was designed to give you perfect filled four corners with less waste.  You can apply this tool to any unit or block that you want to add color to, by just referring to the tool’s instruction cutting chart.

Initially, you would use the folding corners method, where you would layer small squares on a big square, then you would have to mark each of the small squares and stitch them to the larger square. Then when finished, hope it lines up correctly so it doesn't come out crooked or the wrong size.  This was both wasteful of time and fabric.

With the Corner Pop® tool, you will only have to trim rather than a mark by add an oversized replacement triangle and then square everything to a perfect size.  The tool has twenty-two different sizes options, which include whole, half and quarter inch increments.

Find out more about the Corner Pop® Tool by watching this video from this weeks Quilt Talk Tuesday.

Rainbow Serenade QAL

Rainbow Serenade QAL Coming Soon!

Yesterday, I announced during my weekly Facebook Live Series "Quilt Talk Tuesday," that I will be hosting a Quilt Along starting September 11th.

The Quilt Along is based on my newest pattern "Rainbow Serenade."  The Rainbow Serenade Pattern may look complicated but is quite Simple to assemble. The pattern uses a combination of Half Square Triangles and Combinations units, then finishing off with a little Corner Pop to complete the easy units. This pattern was designed to use the Studio 180 Design Tucker Trimmer® 1 and the Corner Pop tools. When complete the quilt measures 60" x 60", which great for any room.

The pattern and tools can be both purchased on my website.

You will have plenty of time to get your fabric together, the picture above is from the Timeless Treasures “Solid-ish” collection. This quilt is great for using the basic solid fabric collections. Unfortunately, I will not be kitting this pattern.
