Progress
has been made on the Women of Courage Quilt. I have found the middle
of the quilt. Which I started working on yesterday. I really didn't
get much done yesterday, due it I was doing a little spring cleaning
around in my office area. It took a good half a day just to get it to
the way I wanted it all. I decided to get it done since today is our
Tax Day, time to meet with the accountant for that yearly task which
everyone hates to do. 
The
UPS man brought me a nice package in the mail yesterday from my Dad.
He made me this nice ruler and scissor hanger for my sewing room. I
love the bird house shape. It fits all my sewing rulers great. My
husband will be hanging it up later for me today. Thank you to my Dad, for this great present!Time to get sewing before tax appointment!Happy Sewing and Quilting!

The
last couple days have been really busy for us. Saturday and Sunday
were days of running errands in town. Saturday, we had to run to the
car dealership to resign paperwork due they messed up some of the
numbers, which worked into our favor slightly lower monthly payments.
Then to Home Depot to get a few items we needed. We didn't find the
shelving unit I wanted for the spare bedroom to store all the fabric on
so we went to BJ's Warehouse Store and we found a nice on there. Sunday
we were back to running errands again this time to Annapolis for our
every 6 month running shoe purchase. My legs and feet are very happy
now, new shoes with cushion. Then we went back to town to pick up dog
food, then home. 
When
we got home, My husband put up my Quilt Display Rod in the Sewing Room.
The rod is just two pieces dowel rods and we hung them with curtain rod
brackets. I will hang the quilts with the curtain rod clips. It will
hold a King Size quilt. Once
that was we put together the new shelving unit in the spare bedroom and
put all the fabric on the shelves, we will have plenty of room for more
fabric. Now we just need to put up the new ceiling fan so we can see
in the room. I have a little rearranging I want to do in that room to
make more room but I'm happy so far.
Monday,
I got my morning run outside in the cool crisp air. Then I got the
rough drafts of the patterns printed and mailed off to My mother in law
for proofing. I got some more errands done while I was in town. By
early afternoon, I was home and quilting which I did get another row
finished. Today, I hope to get the half way done point.Last
Night, we got the design layout of the website newsletter finished.
Just need to get that put in the system. Hope to get the newsletter out

Good Morning, just got back from a nice 6 mile treadmill run at the gym this morning. Now I'm ready to tackle some quilting and/or business items today.
Yesterday, I got alot done on my Women of Courage quilt top, plus I prepared my next embroidery project for my evening hand work. The embroidery project I that I have chosen comes from Bird Brain Designs, It is called "Quilts in the Garden", it is using red thread this time. Once I had this done I jumped right into working on my quilt top.
Assembling this quilt top, which I have divided it into 4 sections, do to the placing of some of the blocks. I started with the bottom left hand corner. Squaring each block before sewing them all together was the best thing, it makes it so much easier to work with.
Next was the top left hand corner.

I finally got one half of the top sewn together and I love it. (I just noticed that one of my half triangles it in the wrong spot, I guess I need to fix that.) LOL!
Now all I have to do is make the bottom right hand corner and sew the bottom half together. Then fun part will be the final sewing of the 2 half together.
I think today it a day of business work, we are in the final days of the website. I want to go over it and make sure it is working right. I will have a big announcement on that probably tomorrow.

Well after I got the binding done for the Starburst Table Topper yesterday. I decided instead of working on the finishing the Snow Happens Embroidery Project I started a year ago. Last march, I wrote about starting a Embroidery Project called Snow Happens! from Bird Brain Designs. Well this weekend, I finished the Embroidery Part of the project.
I for the Embroidery Designs, I used Sulky Sticky Fabri-Solvy, which you make a copy of the design and print it out on this paper using your printer.
Now that I was done with the Embroidery, I had to remove the paper which was really easy. I gently lifted up the Sulky paper from the muslin and cut away the excess paper, then I put some warm water in a pan, and put the project in the water, for a few minutes and gently used my finger and worked up the paper from the muslin. After I thought the paper was all gone I rinsed the fabric again under warm water to make sure it was all gone. And put the project on a towel to dry. A couple hours later, I was able to iron the project with some starch to make it crisp looking again and squared.
This was going to be table runner so, I need to cut the border for the runner. So I cut 1" blue borders for the project and then 1 5/8" muslin outer border. First sewing the 1" inner blue border on the sides and then on the top and bottom. Then adding the outer muslin just like you did on blue border. It sure made a difference adding those borders, but I still have one more border set to put on this table runner.
Then next was something new to me but was fun to make. I needed 8 strips of 2 1/2" strips of muslin and 4 different blue fabrics cut 2 1/16" strips and 4 muslin squares 3" x 3". First off I sewed the blue fabric in the middle of the 2 pieces of muslin to make one long strip. I repeated this 3 more times, so I had 4 long strips and pressed them to the center. Then I cut the long strips into 2 1/16" strips, You get 10 of these per strip set. Then the fun begins, I then laid out the strip sets out like in the picture, then sew them together to make the strip set on point. Making 4 sets of these, 2 sets of 5 and 2 sets of 13. Once I had the sets together, I cut the 4 - 3" x 3" squares in half and sewed them on the ends of each of the sets.
Then I cut off the excess to square them up, remembering to leave 1/4" all the way around.
Then sew the set of 5 borders on the sides.
The sets of 13 go on the top and bottom to finish the table runner.
Now all I have to do is quilt it, which I think I will do this one on my sewing machine. I have not done that in awhile and should be fun to do. I love it!
Well I think I will work on the Women of Courage today, since I didn't get to it yesterday. And prepare my next Embroidery project.

Last Blocks are now finished for the Women of Courage Quilt! Block 11 is one block style but in two different colors for two different women. The blue star blocks are for Rosa Parks, and the red star is for Madeleine de Vercheres.
The stars start with preparing the flying geese in two different sizes. One size will be used in the middle of the stars and the larger size will be used in making the outer sides of the middle block.
Once all the flying geese made I start assembling the blocks, by adding the squares to each side of the geese.
Then after the middle block was assembled I add the outer border to the middle to combine the block. I made 4 of the blue.
The red block was done the same way, but I only had one to make of them. (bad picture)
The final blocks are done now and I can start assembling this block next week, so exciting.

Yesterday, was of day of errands for us. First we woke up to a nice sheet of freezing rain on the windshields, so that delays for going to the gym. But we got a nice breakfast here at the house then headed up to the base for Groceries and a few things at the Bx which took up most of the day. Then we came home, where I was ordering and preparing a last minute preparation list for when the new site goes live, no sewing done but I did get a lot other stuff done around the house.
Tuesday afternoon, I did get another block set done for the Women of Courage Quilt. Block 9- "Amelia Earhart". This block is a basic 9 1/2" x 9 1/2" half -square triangle. You are making 16 blocks with the floral fabric and 8 of the blue fabric. The blocks were fast and easy to make.
Getting closer to putting the blocks together to make it all complete.
Off to get last of the blocks done, and prepare to putting it together. So, Excited to get this one finally done.

Hope everyone had a great weekend! I know we did, we picked up our new vehicle from the dealership. We got a new Hyundai Santa Fe, It was my husbands choice in vehicles, but I love it also. Sunday, we had a great day, working on business work in the morning and watching the Seattle Seahawks win there first Super Bowl Championship. My husband is now happy, he has been a fan since they started in 1976.
Yesterday, I totally forgot a blog post, sorry about that. I did get more done on the finalizing the website done, ordered batting for my longarm service and to sell in my store. Plus, I did get another block done on the Women of Courage Quilt.
Block 9- Mother Teresa, block starts with making 16 hour glass units. That's right we are making 16 blocks.
Once you have the hour glass made you will sew brown triangles on left side on 8 of the units and then on the other 8 units sew the brown on the right side.
You will repeat this process with the background color triangles, to finish sewing making the half square triangles.
Once your triangles are ready, sew them to the blue fabric to finish the square and press open.
The Mother Teresa blocks will look like these. 8 units with the brown in the right hand side and 8 units with the brown in left hand side. This is a easy block to complete and is pretty.
Well time to head to the sewing room to make more blocks.

finishing assembling the Women of Courage Quilt Top. 
Then I 
Once
the quilt top borders were ready I prepared the backing for the
quilting. And Today I got the quilt loaded on the longarm and now is
ready for some custom quilting.
